19-year old talent nominated for the national team

Beck to become a member of Porsche Team Germa

Stuttgart. Founded by the Deutsche Tennis Bund (DTB – the German Tennis Association) in association with Porsche AG, Porsche Talent Team Germany has been in existence since spring 2012. With Annika Beck now set to join the national senior team, it means that the first player has already made the transition from the juniors. The 19-year old will become a member of Porsche Team Germany from 1 January 2014. “Annika Beck is the first young player to make the step up. Though we were obviously aware of her enormous potential, we’re delighted that everything has gone so quickly. Annika has been able to move forward in the past few years due to her professional attitude and not least due to the support given by Porsche AG. She can now stand on her own feet and will make her way,” said DTB Director of Tennis, Klaus Eberhard.

National coach and Porsche Team Germany captain Barbara Ritter is also pleased with the progress being made. “It’s a clear indication that Porsche AG’s involvement is an important building block in the process to develop promising youngsters. Up and coming players like Annika have been able to build up a professional environ-ment early on and quietly go about their development. Annika has earned her suc-cess through discipline and ambition. She will give us a lot of pleasure in times to come.”

Annika Beck began the 2013 season as the world No. 78 and enjoyed a special highlight right away at the start of the year as Barbara Rittner called her up for the national team for the first time when selecting her for the Fed Cup tie against France. Everything went smoothly for the German on the WTA Tour too. She reached the quarterfinals on four occasions and even got to the last four at the tournament in Katowice, Poland. Her biggest coup followed in Luxembourg in October where Beck advanced to her first ever final. The good results also had a positive effect on her ranking which reached a career high of No. 48 in August.

In the coming year, Germany’s most promising female talents will also be supported within the Porsche Talent Team Germany set-up that includes Dinah Pfizenmaier (born in ‘92), Anna-Lena Friedsam (‘94), Carina Witthöft (‘95) and Antonia Lottner (‘96).
