All-Access Hour with Angelique Kerber

“I’m still so passionate about the game”

Stuttgart. Angelique Kerber, the two-time Porsche Tennis Grand Prix winner, has many wonderful memories of Stuttgart. The Porsche Brand Ambassador looks forward the whole year to the extra special tournament week in the Porsche Arena. The 34-year-old spoke about...

…returning to the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix:
“It’s nice to be back, especially in the knowledge that we’ll be back playing in front of spectators. I’m really looking forward to the tournament, one where the organisers do such a fantastic job. All the players love coming to Stuttgart.”

...her memories of the tournament:
“The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix is a quite special tournament for me. After all, I’ve won twice here and have played so many great matches. I always like coming back and look forward the whole year to this special week, especially because I can play in front of a home crowd. The atmosphere and the goose bumps down there on court are something you practice every day for.”

…her first round opponent Anett Kontaveit from Estonia:
“The draw could have been better but it also could have been worse. But I think it often doesn’t say that much. Still I obviously know that it’s not going to be an easy first round because I lost the last few times against her. I’ll have to play my best tennis right from the start and hope there’ll be a good atmosphere in the arena.”

...the field of players and the challenge of winning in Stuttgart:
“The field of players is amazing. All the players love coming here which is why there are no easy opponents at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. It’s also the reason why you have to be ready right from the first moment and play one’s best tennis.”

...the top seeded world No. 1 Iga Swiatek:
“Iga has been really consistent this year and has won a few big tournaments. She works hard and is deservedly the new world No. 1. I’m keen to find out how she’ll deal with the pressure and how things will go in the future.”

…her motivation to keep travelling from tournament to tournament at the age of 34.
“I’m still so passionate about the game because I know I can still hold my own with the world’s best. I’m also fit and healthy. And for as long as things stay that way, then I’ll continue playing.”
